Description of the project:

The building site is in Turin, via St. Pio V, on the edge of the pedestrian area in front of the synagogue. It is configured as a building of considerable interest, made of aggregation and subsequent amendments. Around the middle of the nineteenth century the main building is already owned by the founder Sister Mary Clarac. Today the property is owned by the Istituto di Santa -Maria.
The project provides for the following purposes:
School childhood (ground floor and first floor)
Chapel of St. Mary’s Institute (ground floor and mezzanine )
Residence Sisters of Istituto di Santa –Maria (ground floor and first floor)
Social Housing Ufficio Pio della Compagnia di San Paolo (second floor , third and fourth )
Activities open to the public related to the Social Housing Ufficio Pio della Compagnia di San Paolo
Multi-purpose equipped kitchen (ground floor and basement )
Local handicraft shops (No. 2 on the ground floor and first floor) )
The historical facade is restored with respect to the original historical building, the incongruous parts are replaced by a new bow-window configuration (on both sides of the building).
These technological components, which give great luminosity and livability to the space provided on the 3rd floor, are considered as recognizable contemporary architectural sign, yet respectful of the existing.
The side buildings retain the existing volumes, all enriched with new openings and balconies coordinated with existing ones.
In order to ensure easy distribution of the paths, always guaranteeing the requirements of accessibility to users with disabilities, all floor plans are aligned with those of the historic building that contains the main stairs and elevators.
The distribution of the Social Housing is through open balconies that evoke the traditional distribution systems in existence today, updated in technology and materials.
The child school occupies the ground and first floors of the north and west buildings on the court.
The court may also, in accordance with the educational methods adopted, become a place of recreation and education. To fulfill these requirements is planned to cover the court with an open screen-printed and self –washing glass structure
