Description of the project:

Our task is to design apartments for different user necessities encompassing, but also using the constraints of the given site, located between a ‘single family house structure‘, the ‘existing building from the 70s’ and a `green belt´.

Conceptually, we fold the landscape as a plane around the user definied volumes creating the main structure. Next to the main building of the 70s we locate another three storey building to weaken the dominance of the existing building next to the single family houses. Along the street and the single family houses we place a stretched two storey building with openings inbetween, so the mountain view of the existing family houses is kept (as shown in the concept plan).

Main concerns of our design are to create outdoor spaces in all levels for outdoor living, to avoid traffic noise pollution from the nearby highway for the new habitants and to provide them with east-west orientated areas

for sunlight inside the apartments during the whole day.

Above the parking garage the new ground level is turned into a public green area with a childrens playground, before it has been the paved parking area for cars. Each apartment has an open space like terrace or balcony connected to the living area, to enjoy the surrounding green hills. The building offers different sized apartments from around 60 to 110 m2 for singles, young families and elderly people.

The materials follow the conceptual design and include plexiglass, shaped as waves, that changes colour and structural features with the sunlight. The folded landscape-plane is produced in concrete and covered with

white plaster. The windows are ‘french windows’ that support maximum daylight and also view to the landscape.

The house is a low energy house due to the green roofs, the wooded insulated walls inbetween the concrete plates and the wooden windows with good insulation.
